Join the fight to stop street harassment!

So I just got this email, probably from Anna:

------------------BEGIN TRANSMISSION---------------------

Dear Friends,

Whew.....

It's been a crazy week at Holla Back NYC. So exciting, in fact, that we've started to refer to October as "the early days" in casual conversation.

We recently locked ourselves down in the workshop (well...not literally, of course) and hammered out a new site design. Take a look, it's pretty sleek. Big thanks to Liz Turrigiano for her photo expertise!

We encourage you all to make a visit to the site and sign up for our new mailing list. We'll be sending out a Post of the Week and updates on upcoming HBNYC events. We're already planning an awesome belated launch party and we have several film screenings and panel events in the works. Believe me, you'll dig it. Here's the link again. Seriously, it only takes three clicks...

If you haven't been keeping up with the NYC blogosphere lately, you may not have heard that Holla Back has been posted on Gothamist, Salon.com, Metblogs and about a zillion other excellent sources lately. We also have an article in the works with a major national magazine and an esteemed academic journal. We're blowin' up! As you may expect, we're all VERY excited.....

So here's to ending street harrassment! Please join the fight, we'd love your help.

Holla back, NYC!

Sincerely,

The Holla Back NYC Team

-------------------END TRANSMISSION---------------------------

So that's crazy. I had no idea that their whole hollabacknyc thing was going to end up getting so popular. Its remarkable that they're really doing it and getting recognized by the blogging world. Those Gallatin folks really do try hard and boy they deserve this, especially considering how risky it is to graduate with such a useless diploma. I encourage all my fans to check out this site and put up postings, share your experiences and thoughts. Sure, give the trend patrol something to write about, but most of all, as Guy D. said, expose yourself to the perpexed eyes of the mainstream. Still, I'm wondering if fighting the fight against street harassement is something I can really get into. Sure, I don't appreciate it when black people look at me like I'm an asshole and when groups of latino high school kids intentionally push the smallest kid right into me, or when the "penny for the homeless" guy is fucking moaning his monotonous bullshit all day fucking long. Jesus christ man, think of some new material! A penny a day will not feed the damn homeless. You need dollars, lots of dollars from lots of people. Anyway, I'm hoping I'll be able to wrap my head around this whole street harassment thing and the hip new counter-culture that will accompany it. Sometimes its hard to keep up when life is moving so fast. Until next time-

Thesman D.
